Beekeeping Guide

Last Updated:
With different kinds of activities that you can do during the Seasons expansion in the Sims 4, you’ll wonder if there are some new hobbies that your Sims can have. Aside from gardening and Flower Arranging, the flowers that you can get can benefit another hobby, Beekeeping!

With Burtie’s Bee Box, you can raise bees and get some honey! There are a lot of other interactions as well that you can get from Beekeeping, so knowing what the features provide can be helpful. In this guide, we’ll provide you the basics of Beekeeping, and let you know about its features.

How to start Beekeeping

So if you want to start and make some honey, you’ll need the help of Bees. Burtie’s Bee Box can be purchased through the game’s buy mode, and you can find them by sorting by room and then checking Outdoors, and then Outdoor Activities. Alternatively, you can just type Bee on the search bar in order to get started.

You can place the Bee box on the ground anywhere you want, but it’s beneficial if you place them on a location that has flowers that are growing. Bees will require trust in order for you to have a bond with them, so it’s normal that they will try to sting you! So, you’ll have to check on your bees often in order for the stinging to eventually go away.

Protective Gear: If you interact with the box, you’ll get to have the option to wear a Beekeeper suit. This will prevent any stings, so you can use it to harvest honey. You’ll need to take note though that you cannot bond with bees if you’re wearing this.

Bonding with your Bees

You’ll want to have good quality honey that the bees can create, so you’ll need to use the Bond with Bees feature of the box. As stated earlier, you’ll need to do this without wearing the Beekeeper suit, so expect your Sim to get stung for a bit.

Bees, just like Sims, have moods. The more that you bond with your bees, then the better mood that they’ll get. If you check the box, you’ll be able to see how much honey you have, the activity levels of the bees, as well as their grumpiness. Mites can attack bees so make sure to apply mite treatments every now and then or else they will get grumpy.

Tip: If Bees are irritated or enraged, they are likely to attack. It would be best for you to bond with your bees if they’re calm instead. Their grumpiness changes over time. You can also have a Crocus scented flower nearby to calm them down, which you can get from Flower Arranging.

Harvesting Honey

You can collect honey from the box every 7 hours, or you can let the box fill up with honey for 24 hours in order to get three jars. The quality of the honey will be based on your relationship with the bees, and the honey can be used for various functions.

You can use honey for selling, or perhaps you can use it for cooking and creating drinks. Another effect is for you to eat honey as is, and they’ll provide your sim with extreme Weather protection! This is useful if you’re not able to change your Sim’s clothes on time during a specific weather period.

Tip: Bees will only produce Honey during Spring, Summer, and Fall. Once Winter arrives, they’ll become dormant in terms of honey production. You can still interact with them if you wish.

Collecting Swarms

Your bees that bond with your Sim can provide you with a new interaction. IF you collect a swarm of bees, you can keep them in your inventory and you’ll be able to instruct them with different types of commands. Here is the list of things you can do with a bee swarm.

Keeping bees are a great way for you to have your garden flourish. They provide extra fertilization, and then the pollination process can help you get more types of possible plants. They’re also another way for you to gain extra income on top of gardening, so it’s good for you to start bonding with those bees!
