Gardener Career

Last Updated:
In the Sims 4, you were first able to have Gardening as a regular skill where you try to grow your own plants and then sell them which is similar on how painters create art at home in order for them to sell later on. In the Seasons update, the Gardener career has been added which lets you work from home and focus on your gardening skill.

If you are a plant lover, then this career is just for you! You get to take care of different kinds of plants, improve your skills, as well as make money with different types of plant life. In this guide, we’ll be checking the different features of being a Gardener.

Gardener Work Location

As stated earlier, Gardening is a career that you’re able to do at the comfort of your own home. Most careers in the Sims 4 requires your Sim to go for work within a specific schedule and then they go home after their shift ends.

Working from home is a new feature added for specific career fields such as Critic, Politician, Social Media, as well as Gardening. The work from home feature lets you choose to work from home by clicking the house icon on the lower left side a day before work. One benefit of working from home is that you can do different things in addition to working, it’s a good way for you to improve on your Sim by being at home. You can focus on improving your skills while working, or creating items that you can sell in addition to the income you create at work.

Unlike other careers that let them do their job automatically, you will be provided with specific tasks while you’re working from home. You need to complete these tasks in order to affect your work performance as well as how much money that you can acquire.

Gardener Career Level

Similar to other types of careers in the game, your Sim is able to rank up their profession. Starting from level 1, you will need to complete specific tasks in order to increase your career level. You can then get promoted to the next level and receive rewards for your efforts.

The Gardener career ties in to the gardening skill; therefore, you will need some space in your lot in order to grow your plants. Gardening is an outdoor activity so you will need your Sim to step out of the house in order to begin working. Here’s a list of the different career branches for the Gardener:

Tips for the Gardener Career: With the Seasons update, you’ll have to take note as well of the seed that you are planting as well as the corresponding season. There are some plants in the game that won’t grow in specific seasons, so that can affect your goal in terms of promoting your Sim. You can use your computer in the game or use the buy mode in order to purchase the Starter Herbs Pack. A good way to help your career is by growing Sage since this can grow throughout all seasons.

Once you’ve got the hang of growing Sage, you can then master planting other types of seeds per season. If you want a specific plant to work with for a while, you can always check the Seasons Options in order to increase the number of days each season has.

If you’re aiming to get faster promotion, it would ideal for your Sim’s mood to be energized. Since you’re working from home, you can give your Sim a Brisk Shower, Taking Medicine, taking a Shower, or even use an Energized Potion as your choices. Once your Sim’s career level reaches 5, you’ll then be able to choose different career branches: Botanist or Floral Designer

Botanist Career Branch

The Botanist career branch lets you focus more on the different sciences of plants. By increasing your Sim’s knowledge about plant life, you will then be able to analyze plants, write papers, then earn grants for your efforts. Since they focus more on sciences, you’ll be able to earn more income based on their career salary, instead of any arrangements that they will try to sell.

Botanists will need to work with specific skills such as Logic and Writing. Because of this, you’ll want to provide your sims with a Focused mood. Thankfully you’re working at home, so you can improve the same set of skills in tandem with gardening. You can work on these skills early on when starting out.
